Twin Cities Postcard Project
- Do you and the pupils at your school like sending postcards?
- Could you spare 10 minutes in the school day to encourage pupils to write an exclusive Axel Scheffler Postman Bear postcard to your twin city or town for World Postcard Day on 1st October 2024 to help build connections and friendship?
If yes, then read on…
- Download the exclusively designed Axel Scheffler postcard from HERE. Photocopy onto card for the number of pupils and teachers who would like to write a postcard.
- Find out the name of the place your village, town or city is twinned with to send a postcard to. You will need to find an address to send them to such as a Twin City officer or the local Town Hall, or you might be able to look up a similar school to you and send them there.
- Think of something you love about where you live to write on your postcard.
- Think of something you’d like to know about the place you’re sending a postcard to.
- Write a postcard! We suggest starting the postcard “Dear reader” or “Dear friend”. Only sign first names just for safeguarding reasons.
- Write the place you would like it to go to in the space for the address.
- Put them all in one envelope to save on postage and send.
The activity can be as long or as short as you would like. Classes could look up information about twinning, or discuss why real post is still important, why people like sending letters and postcards, or look at the logistics of international postal systems, or all of the above and more.
World Postcard Day is the creation of Postcrossing, an organisation that encourages everyone to send postcards around the world all year round. Here is the official link to their page with lots of great ideas, information and resources to make the most of the day!
