BBC Radio Kent, 8th April 2026

It was lovely to be invited onto Lucy Horobin’s morning radio show on BBC Radio Kent to talk about why letter writing is still important and what would Royal Mail’s next round of price hikes mean for people sending letters.

Lucy’s first guest was Vicky Price, ex-Chief Government Economist, with all the usual “facts and figures” about letter volumes falling and the idea of getting rid of the USO. I always find it so disappointing that they don’t understand about vicious circles and that backing the dismantling of the service (and it is meant to be a service) doesn’t improve the service. If you fine a company millions of pounds for failing to deliver (quite literally in some parts of the country) they inevitably pass that cost onto the customer.

Anyway, click HERE if you wanted to listen (article starts at around 14 minutes in).

PS If you wanted to hear Dominic King’s lovely trampolining penpal story click HERE and listen at 3hr36mins in.

PPS New price hikes HERE. (£3.60 to send a standard letter overseas is actually quite a shock.)
