The English Stamp Company Christmas Stamper Winners Announced!

Thank you so much to everyone who took part in our mini-competition to design a festive stamper to add to our Christmas post. We are delighted to announce that all the entries have been added to our page on the English Stamp Company website, and we are so excited to finally be able to share them with you!

A huge thank you to Emily, Helen, Sally, and Megan for their fabulous designs. I was even brave enough to draw a couple of them which have been chosen too!

Super exciting news is that Axel Scheffler has once again drawn us a brilliant stamper to commemorate and remember Sir Henry Cole, inventor of the Christmas Card, and his little dog Jim, as seen in the lovely book “Jim’s Spectacular Christmas” written by Emma Thompson and illustrated by Axel.

We are hoping to make a big fuss of Sir Henry on #ChristmasCardDay this year, on Tuesday 9th December and hope that you can join us by writing some Christmas cards to send on the day, like we did for Sir Rowland Hill’s #PennyBlackDay.

Axel, Emma and Alice MacDonnell (Henry’s GGGG Granddaughter) already have their Henry and Jim stampers ready to use, and we are hoping to go up to London on the day to find Henry’s grave in Brompton Cemetery to remind everyone that sending Christmas cards is still a lovely thing to do and spreads so much joy.

Letter from Sir Henry Cole’s GGGG Granddaughter with Emma Thompson and Axel Scheffler’s book

Any commission from the Sir Henry Cole stampers will be used to buy postage stamps for school kids here in the UK.

I can’t wait to see where the stampers end up. Do share any photos of them in use or setting off on their postal travels by tagging us in @letterappsoc using the hashtag #ChristmasCardDay.

Happy stamping!

Dinah
